EMERGING U.S. SHALE PLAYS 2012

As the shale gas and tight oil revolution has exploded in recent years, the importance of being an early-mover in emerging plays has become a pre-requisite to E&P profitability. In an intense environment of high investment stakes and depressed gas prices, it is imperative that only the most lucrative oil and liquid-rich plays are entered. In the search for the next big resource play, it is vital for producers to identify the key geological components that will lay the essential foundations for long-term economic viability in previously un-tapped plays. First movers in oil and liquid rich plays have the opportunity to snap up the quality acreage at a fraction of the costs, meaning it is highly cost-effective to spot these opportunities in the earliest stages, to secure huge competitive advantages and drive robust profit margins.

The benefits of identifying the next big resource play can only be fully realized by understanding the most effective completions and drilling techniques particular to each formation. Understanding the geological characteristics relative existing completion practices will provide the knowledge needed to vigorously pursue optimum recovery and obtain maximum profits.

Emerging Shale Plays USA 2012 will for the very first time, bring together executives from the first movers in North America’s leading undeveloped shale plays to analyze reservoir characteristics, initial production rates and regulatory conditions to determine the long-term economic viability of developing these newly identified unconventional assets.

The conference will deliver the latest geological and production data from the Utica, Tuscaloosa, Avalon and Bone Spring, Monterey, Cline, Green River, Woodford Oil, and Heath Plays alongside play-specific challenges, to equip producers with the knowledge to capitalize on these un-tapped resources that are set for exponential growth.

Day One will examine the reservoir characteristics of the Utica, Tuscaloosa and Monterey Shale to determine the quality of resource and the optimum drilling and completions techniques that will make these plays profitable.  It will also analyze the geological, petrophysical, engineering and regulatory factors of the Utica to determine the scope of the liquid rich play. It will then examine how the latest drilling and completion techniques can unlock the production potential of the Tuscaloosa, which is said to be similar in age and lithology to the incredibly productive Eagle Ford. Finally, day one will evaluate the geology, completions and unique regulatory backdrop of the Monterey shale to establish EURs, profitability and feasibility of entrance.

Day Two will analyze the lithology and well performance of the Avalon, Bone Spring and Cline to determine potential recovery volumes and optimal completion techniques. It will then study the Green River Formation to understand the play-specific drilling and completions techniques needed to operate around the western Colorado aquifer. It will then study the rock characteristics of the Woodford to understand its potential for high flow rate wells. Finally, it will evaluate the maturity, permeability and pressure of the Heath reservoir to derive reserve estimations and assess the profitability of the play.

LEARNING BENEFITS

When everyone is out to discover the next Marcellus, Bakken or Eagle Ford…

…it is critical to gain the widest wealth of knowledge possible on the geological, completions and regulatory aspects of new and emerging plays to assess the practical and commercial feasibility of entering and unlocking the resources in place.

Emerging Shale Plays USA 2012 will bring together experts from the hottest emerging plays in the country to share geological understandings, best and worst practices for drillings and completions as well as play-specific regulatory and environmental challenges to minimize risk and maximize resource recovery and financial netback for the following plays:

UTICA: Analyzing geological, petrophysical, engineering and regulatory components of the Utica to determine the scope of the liquid-rich play

TUSCALOOSA: Examining how the latest drilling and completion techniques could unlock a production potential equivalent to the Eagle Ford

MONTEREY: Evaluating the geology, completions and unique regulatory backdrop to establish EURs, profitability and feasibility of entrance

AVALON, BONE SPRING & CLINE: Studying the geology and well performance of emerging Texas plays to determine potential recovery volumes

GREEN RIVER FORMATION: Realizing the geological characteristics to determine optimum play-specific drilling and completions techniques

WOODFORD SHALE OIL PLAY: Analyzing the key geological components of the Woodford to fully understand the high flow rate potential of this unique oil play

HEATH: Analyzing the maturity, permeability and pressure of the reservoir to derive reserve estimations and assess profitability of the play
